Well..here I am again, blogging..Im honestly just writing down everything that comes to mind right now, but lets get to the main point shall we?
So the decision to join the military..how did that happen?
Well here's some reasons worth thinking about, some reasons i'll explain in more detail others i wont because they should be self explanatory, so here goes:
Possible Questions and My Reasons why I joined the Military in general:
Q) Eric, why do you wanna join the military all of a sudden? What's your reasons?
1) One of the main reasons why i joined the military in the first place was because I wanted something new in life. It makes sense if your looking at it from my perspective. I've been in belleville since i was in 3rd grade and it's pretty much the same thing nowadays compared to when i moved in. The only thing that really changed was the number of buildings and different "landscape" if you wanna call it that. Main point, it's belleville, nothing to do, same old ish, different day. the only fun thing to do sadly enough is go to walmart and meijer and clown around in there, and even that gets boring after the first 30 minutes after you run out of ideas on what to do in there or if you get kicked out.
In the military, you travel across the United States and sometimes overseas, so life's never really dull. Yeah it may have some dull days here and there, but your doing something that you love or are interested in that not only helps you but also helps the government and the United States of America, so you really won't be bored or the job may not be dull at all. Adding to that, I'm a guy that gets bored pretty easily, I found that out about myself, so I need something new and exciting that keeps me on my toes and keeps my attention and doing these kinds of things will be fun to me.
2) I'm a guy that loves to travel a lot, and like I said before, the military has you traveling from place to place, so there's always some kind of adventure to be had. It may not happen every single day, but im pretty sure i'll be traveling across the US a few times before my contract is up.
3) The benefits outweigh the cost. The military pays for your schooling (or a good amount of it depending on where you go). They also pay for your medical, dental, health, food, all that stuff, so you don't have to really pay for anything other than if you go outside of the base and go shopping or go to a restaurant but even if you do, you'll have the money to pay for it because you get PAID in the military. That being said, for me, i wouldn't want my mom and dad paying money out of their pocket because something goes wrong with me, even though we got some okay insurance, i rather have everything paid for and for them not to pay a cent and not have to worry about me, plus its kinda like giving thanks to them for doing everything for me to help raise me and everything like that.
Q) So which branch of the military did you decide to join?
I decided to join the Air Force. Overall, everyone including myself said that going to the Air Force would be the best decision for me. And honestly i haven't heard too much of bad things about the Air Force, but i figured they have what I want most of all in the long run and that is: A good paying job, a positive lifetime experience, helps me out in the long run, a good reputation as a military branch, and family support. Plus i think it's a good fit for me and a decision i feel in my heart is the right branch to join. Don't get me wrong, i listened to the other branches, and almost got swepped up in joining the marines which would've been the worst decision of my lifetime, but im glad my heart was happy with the Air Force.
Q) You mentioned your parents, are they supportive of your decision?
Yeah they are. At first they were a little skeptical about why i wanted to join the military all of a sudden (mainly school reasons) but after talking to them and having many discussions with them and other family members, they love the idea and support it all the way, and it makes me happy that they do support my decision, it puts a good feeling in my soul to have them support everything i do.
Q) Aren't you nervous about basic training?
Honestly, i'm still a little nervous even to this day, because it's something huge in my life. I'll be gone for 8.5 weeks in Texas, somewhere i haven't been before, on my own, with other people joining the Air Force as well. This isn't like some band camp where your gone for a week and come back, this is pretty much 8.5 weeks of doing something on your own and coming out an Airmen, full of confidence, and a totally changed person.
Q) Are you gonna be ready for BMT (Basic Military Training)?
If we are talking about physically, I should be. By the time my ship out date rolls around, I should be physically fit enough to handle basic training. I'll work out more often than i ever have just to make sure im in tip-top shape so I'm not struggling to do the running, push-ups,sit-ups, and other things they ask me to do.
If we are talking mentally, i'd say im ready for BMT. Honestly, i'm just more excited and anxious than anything to go to basic training.
Q) How long are you under contract?
4 years.
Q) Are you still gonna keep in contact with family, friends and loved ones while your in the Air Force?
Of course i will, i wouldn't see why i wouldn't. Plus i got too many people worrying about me to not try to communicate with them back home. I might even convince some of my friends to join the Armed Forces if they are thinking about doing it.
Q) Are you excited to meet new people and make new friends?
Definitely, and these aren't just regular kinds of people. These are friends that you can have for a lifetime for the next 4, 10, 20 years or so, all serving the same country, and some are serving for the same reasons that I'd be serving, so it makes it even more fun and exciting to meet them.
Q) What are you gonna miss the most by being in the Air Force?
In three words: home, family, friends. but you could ask any person in the military person that, and im pretty sure a good 90% would give you that answer.. that or home cooking, and nothing can replace home cooking.
Q) One last question, would you say your overall satisfied with your decision to join the Air Force and are you going to stay for life?
Honestly, i would say im pretty satisfied in my decision to join the Air Force. To answer the second question it depends on what happens in my life by the time my 4 years are up. A lot can happen in 4 years, so if i feel like i need to stay, then i'll stay. I'll just do what's in my best interest and what's best for me overall, so right now i'm not going to say im going to stay or leave, i'll leave you with a "we'll see what happens down the road because im not really worried about it" kind of answer.
If you have any other questions you'd like to know, feel free to leave a comment and i'll try to answer it.
Part 2 will come out around my ship out date when I have to leave for basic training so stay tuned for that blog.
