Nostalgic Memories of High School and Music

So recently, I went to the last concert of the year for my high school's Symphony Band. Gotta say it kinda nostalgic being in the high school building  and seeing the remains of the old building before they finish building the new site. The hallways, vending machines, the gym, some of the classrooms, just brought back a whole bunch of memories. The classroom that brought back the most memories had to be the band room. Too many fun times in the band room to put on this blog but let's just say memories were just flowing back in my mind.

I remember my time in Symphony band, back when I was a senior in high school. Symphony band was fun as hell to be in, had  the best kids in the band program in one entire band. I remember thinking to myself, this is it, this is what i've been waiting to get in my entire high school band career (it took three times for me to get in but let's skip that point). But i gotta say being in symphony band was definitely a great experience, playing some awesome music, meeting famous band directors, traveling to Indianapolis, playing our concerts, all of that was worth it. I gotta say going to Indianapolis was probably the greatest highlight of that year.Got to see some amazing bands play, got to meet some other people from other bands, and of course meeting some other girls, aw yeah..haha, but on a serious note though they were pretty cool. One thing i'll never forget was going to the Indianapolis Colts stadium and going to this party they were throwing for us inside of the stadium. It was like your typical kind of party; music, dancing/grinding, food and drinks (non-alcoholic of course), and good times and good people. I remember getting asked so many times "where are you from?" and by me saying Michigan, i got shocked responses and more questions/comments like "Oh your from michigan, that's really cool!" or "What's it like in Michigan?". I even got asked one time if i was single by a very cute girl, but at the time i was taken so i said no, but she was very cool about it and we danced for a couple of songs and talked for a little while. I remember that there were people from Texas and I think there were some people from Atlanta and other places.

I also remember playing the concert. I was so nervous, just thinking to myself: "Don't mess up your notes, don't mess up a rhythm or come in at the wrong time...". Luckily I didn't mess up, and the band played really well. One thing i wished could've happened was the fact that i wanted to play Apollo Unleashed for Indy, but another band already took it. Overall the Indy trip was fun and I'm glad we went.

Which brings me to this concert I recently saw. The Symphony Band this year played really well, Blue Shades was probably the best song they played out of the three. I was just sitting in the audience thinking, I wish I could go on the stage and play in the band one last time for fun. One last time, I wanna sightread music, listen for pitch and tone, play with the flute section once again and be a part of the band. One last time i wanna rock Apollo Unleashed's brains out. It's definitely a different feeling when you're used to playing in the band and performing concerts for a good part of your life and sitting in the audience listening to the music and not being able to play in the band. But my time's passed, and I'll just let the people in the Symphony Band play their music. Looking back on it, being a part of the band program was probably one of the best decisions of my lifetime, hands down. That's where i met a lot of people who are important to me, and having priceless memories and friends to always keep in my mind.

Music will forever be a part of me, no matter what happens to me, so for now all i can say is, play on Symphony Band, play on.
